Senior Collections Specialist
We are currently seeking an experienced Senior Collections and Recovery Specialist for Edmonton's leading licensed collection agency.
The successful candidate will manage a diverse portfolio of both consumer and commercial accounts, working collaboratively with clients and debtors to negotiate successful resolutions while maintaining compliance with all applicable legislation and industry standards.
This position requires a highly organized, results-driven professional who is confident handling challenging conversations, negotiating payment arrangements, locating debtors, and managing accounts from initial placement through to resolution or legal escalation.
Responsibilities:
- Manage a portfolio of consumer and commercial collection accounts.
- Review account documentation to determine appropriate recovery strategies.
- Prioritize accounts based on recovery potential, aging, balance, and client objectives.
- Contact consumers and businesses by telephone, email, text message, and written correspondence.
- Negotiate payment arrangements, settlements, and full account resolutions.
- Resolve disputes while maintaining professionalism and compliance.
- Monitor payment plans and proactively follow up on missed payments.
- Maximize account recovery while preserving positive client relationships where possible.
- Locate debtors using skip tracing databases, credit bureau information, public records, social media, and other investigative tools.
- Verify employment, banking, address, and contact information.
- Recommend appropriate recovery actions based on available information.
- Prepare files for legal review where required.
- Coordinate with legal counsel regarding judgments, garnishments, and enforcement proceedings.
- Ensure all recovery activities comply with Alberta legislation.
- Ensure all collection activities comply with Alberta's Consumer Protection Act, applicable collection agency legislation, privacy legislation, and company policies.
- Maintain confidentiality of client and debtor information.
- Conduct all communications ethically and professionally.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 3 years of recent experience working within a licensed collection agency.
- Experience collecting both consumer and commercial debt.
- Strong negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
- Proven ability to manage a high-volume workload while meeting collection targets.
- Experience using collection software, Microsoft Office, and skip tracing tools.
- Professional, confident, and resilient under pressure.
